Websites designed to win customers

Moon's websites are not designed to look fancy. Each type of business gets one carefully designed website model, built to turn visitors into enquiries, bookings and orders, and Moon keeps improving it.

Ease of use wins, not decoration

People do not choose a plumber or a restaurant because one website looks fancier than another. They want to find what they need quickly and act on it. The most important part of a website is being very easy to use, with a clean, professional design.

So each Moon website model is designed in the best possible way for that type of business to take on customers. The layout, the order of the sections and the buttons all come from what that business's customers are trying to do.

One great design, always improving, like a phone

A phone's software does not come in hundreds of different designs. One design is made for everyone and keeps being improved, year after year, for ease of use. Moon works the same way: each business type has one website model, and Moon keeps improving it.

Every business still looks like itself. Each website has its own name, words, photos and logo, and theme settings tailored to that type of business (colours and styles, and a light and a dark look), on top of the proven layout.

The same principles on every website

  • Minimal friction

The fewest taps between a visitor arriving and getting what they came for: a price, a booking, an order or a call.

  • Clear navigation

The same short menu on every page, in the words customers use, so nobody has to hunt.

  • Mobile first

Most visitors arrive on a phone, so every page is designed for a phone screen first, then for laptops, with a light and a dark look.

  • Obvious calls to action

The one thing a visitor most likely wants to do next (ask for a quote, book, order, call) is always in reach.

  • A consistent experience

Every website of a type works the same proven way, so what works for one business works for the next.

  • Fast and easy to read

Clean pages that load quickly, with large text, strong contrast and nothing that jumps around while it loads.

Example: a plumber's website

Someone looking for a plumber wants to know what the plumber does, whether they cover the area, whether they can be trusted, and how to get a price or help now. A Moon plumber website answers those in that order:

  • Services first

The jobs the plumber does, such as boiler repairs, bathrooms or leaks, so visitors see straight away they are in the right place.

  • The areas covered

A list of the towns and districts the plumber works in, so people nearby see at once that they are covered.

  • An enquiry form that asks the right things

Visitors pick the job from the plumber's own list and describe it. It arrives in Moon HQ as a new enquiry, ready for a reply with a price.

  • An emergency call button

Someone with a burst pipe can ring in one tap from any page.

  • Proof of the work

A gallery of the plumber's own jobs and a section for what customers say.

Example: a restaurant's website

Someone looking at a restaurant wants to see the menu and prices, know when it is open, and order or book without fuss. A Moon restaurant website is built around exactly that:

  • The menu, with a photo for every dish

Sections, prices, dietary labels, choices with their own prices, and the 14 allergens UK law asks restaurants to show, on each dish.

  • Order for delivery or collection

A basket on the restaurant's own website; customers can follow their rider on a live map.

  • Order at the table by QR code

Each table has its own QR code: guests order from their phones and ask for the bill.

  • Book a table

Guests ask for a day, a time and how many of them, and the restaurant confirms in Moon HQ.

  • Orders only when open

When the kitchen is closed, the website says so and when it opens, instead of taking an order nobody will cook.
